About Dr. Belisle
Dr. Lisa Belisle has practiced family medicine for more than thirty years, across hospitals, teaching settings, private offices and her own business, with a clinical focus on integrative medicine. She holds an MD, an MPH, an MBA and a PhD in leadership focused on leading through change.
For more than a decade, she taught in residency and graduate medical education. She has served on the executive team of one of Maine's largest health systems and on the leadership team of a virtual healthcare startup. She draws on that experience when she asks how care gets delivered in Maine, and who it reaches.
Alongside the clinical work she has written, edited and broadcast for years, recording more than a thousand long-form conversations on the air and in print. She hosts Radio Maine, a video podcast made in partnership with the Portland Art Gallery, and writes The Bountiful Path, published on Substack, on medicine, art and seasonal wisdom. She is at work on a memoir.
On the show she brings clinical training, health system leadership and the long view of someone who has spent years listening to patients, to artists and to the people who write about them. She believes how we live matters as much as how long we live. She speaks in featured talks, fireside conversations, workshops, retreats and panel moderation.
In her own words
“It really is about the listening.”
“I want to stay with the notion of hope, that there is always something else that can be tried, that can be looked for.”
“When people listen to the stories of patients, sometimes they see themselves in that patient.”
“If you're going to have dysregulation of the nervous system, it's going to impact your whole self.”
